Why Support the Bibi Lobo Permanent Scholarship Fund?

“If I had to name what Bibi Lobo was best at I’d have to say helping children and their families thrive. Founder of the National Latinos Children’s Institute, one of the first public policy groups of its kind and her history as a teacher, activist, community volunteer and later publicist for a Latin grammy children’s musician 123 Andres, everything Bibi did personally and professionally was about improving the lives of children up against some of the biggest challenges. So creating a scholarship in her name for students struggling towards their own American Dream is truly suiting to be named in her honor.”

– Laura Donnelly, CEO, Latinitas.

Who Is Bibi Lobo?

In 2020, Latinitas lost a lifelong advocate for our girls. Virginia “Bibi” Lobo Somyak passed away on July 24th, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew her, including Latinitas and our Co-Founder and CEO, Laura Donnelly. A powerful voice for Latina girls and Hispanic youth in general, she served on Latinitas’ board, and was a mentor and friend to Laura and others in the organization.

How Does This Honor Bibi?

In her honor, Latinitas is creating an endowed scholarship fund in her name. A generous anonymous donor has pledged to match every dollar raised up to $25,000…which means that if we can raise $25,000 from our sponsors, supporters and community, we can build a $50,000 endowment that would be permanent and provide a scholarship for higher education to a Latinitas alumna every year.

How Can I Support?

Please join us in this campaign. Each dollar you donate will be doubled by this matching gift, and will live on forever to help send a Latinita to college every year.

Thank you,
Your friends at Latinitas
